Learn the beautiful art of bobbin lace making Bobbin lace is a relatively simple and age old method of making lace. It uses 2 different stitches in various combinations to produce many different patterns. The lace produced can be used for trimming or edging any fiber art project you create. While lace is usually made with fine threads, by enlarging the pattern you can use any heavier threads from other weaving projects, adding a unique custom finish! Workshop participants will work on a sampler of 4 commonly used stitch combinations (shown at the bottom of the collage above). These combinations are the main building blocks of bobbin lace patterns and will carry you a long way in your exploration of bobbin laces. This is an absolute beginner class, no experience at anything is required. All materials are provided. Maximum class size: 10 SUPPLIES INCLUDED: Foam lace board, 12 bobbins threaded with cotton thread, pins, a bobbin keeper, and instructional handouts that include a sampler pattern and 2 lace patterns. ABOUT THE TEACHER: Timothy Coyle has worked with and taught bobbin lace for over 30 years. The structure, mathematics, and beauty of lace calls to him. He is a member of the Arachne’s Guild of the Society for Creative Anachronism where he specializes in several forms of bobbin lace and cutwork lace, a teacher at Griffin Dyeworks' events, and the designer of the Unicorn Fiber Arts bobbin lace kit. $60 workshop fee includes all materials, instructional handouts, and free WeFF admission.
