Jersey City Parks Coalition Nature Journaling Program 2021 Sketch, describe, and discover at JC Parks About this event Join JCPC and Bergen Hill Park for Nature Jornaling Fun workshop/ Art Therapy Sunday, June 26, 2021 10 AM - 11 AM EST Free Family Events Include: 10 AM EST: Art in the Park: Nature Journaling Program JCPC NATURE JOURNALING PROGRAM OVERVIEW & PURPOSE As part of The Jersey City Parks Coalition (JCPC) Nature Educational & Community Programming, and in PARKnership with Westside Community Alliance (WSCA), the JCPC is offering this Family-Friendly create your own Nature Log Book workshop with children Ages: 5 years old and up Drawing exercises will bring an emphasis on building strong observation skills and mindful recording of facts and feelings while creating beautiful organic illustrations. We encourage students to explore their surrounding environments and to use art materials as a recording modality. OBJECTIVE Learn about: line drawing, patterns in nature, plant identification, and about artists and naturalists past and present. MATERIALS PROVIDED Each registered participant will receive individual art supplies to take home after the event including a journal, tape, and coloring supplies. Pre-Registration required in advance. First 35 participants. This is a complementary event and Donations are welcomed This event is made possible through the generosity of the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation (JCEDC) COVID-19 Relief Grant. + Family Event + Nature Journaling + Green Classroom + PARKnerships Please arrive 15 minutes in advance to check in. She has worked as an art teacher’s assistant at the Ethical Community Charter School in Jersey City. Athena also worked with gallery tours and children’s workshops at the mana contemporary museum of art. Athena Toledo currently lives and works in Jersey City Heights. Athena’s goal is to work in facilities around Jersey City as an Art Therapist, leading workshops in open studio settings.” Roxana Marroquin Roxana Marroquin is an artist, art therapist, herbalist and community gardener. With deep roots in Hudson County, Roxana completed a Bachelors of Art degree in photography from New Jersey City University and Master of Science degree in Art Therapy from the College of New Rochelle. In 2012, Roxana was introduced to community gardening though Jersey City’s adopt-a-lot program and trained under master herbalist Karen M. Rose of Sacred Vibes Apothecary as a spiritual herbalist. Roxana centers ancestral wisdom, nature based spirituality, community and the transformative practice of art making in her practice. Agua de Jade Apothecary is the vessel from which she creates and distributes herbal offerings, provides individual consultations, and facilitates workshops in her community. Roxana has worked with various populations and settings as Art Therapist and has facilitated art and plant medicine making workshops at GreenThumb's 34th Annual GrowTogether Conference, First and Third Annual NYC Spiritual Herbalism Conference, Newark Science & Sustainability, Make The Road NJ, The Youth Farm, and various community gardens, organizations, coffee shops, and pop up locations around her community. A perpetual student of self, plants, and all her relations, Roxana is in a lifelong journey of remembrance and reconnection.
