NEW ROCHELLE, NY — After a man walked into a Bronx emergency room with a gunshot wound, New Rochelle police soon had the suspected shooter and the victim both in custody. Late Wednesday night, NYPD investigators contacted the New Rochelle Police Department to report that a gunshot victim, who walked into Jacobi Hospital with a wound to the foot, told them he had been shot in New Rochelle. New Rochelle detectives who spoke with the shooting victim Tairus White-Edney, learned that the 20-year-old had been shot near Colonel Lee Archer Boulevard and Jacquetta Cole Street in the city. Investigators found three spent shell casings at the scene of the reported shooting. Investigators believe Richard Faulkner of New Rochelle was the shooter. The 35-year-old was taken into custody. Police say Faulkner was firing at an unknown person at the time of the shooting. It does not appear that White-Edney was the intended target and was instead caught in the foot by a stray bullet, according to police reports. Faulkner was later charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. White-Edney is facing weapons charges as well, after detectives reported finding a loaded .380 handgun in his home during a follow-up investigation.
