BOSTON — Two Boston police officers are still being investigated for comments related to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. NBC10 obtained records that identified Joseph Abasciano and Michael Geary as the officers being investigated for comments made on social media. The Boston Globe had cited a source last month that said Abasciano was behind the now-deleted @mailboxjoe Twitter account. The account had photos of the crowd in D.C. on the day of the riots and tweets accusing Vice President Mike Pence of treason; Pence had allowed the certification of presidential election ballots to succeed. Abasciano is a retired Marine known in GOP circles for organizing Back The Blue events around the state, according to the Globe. He has been on sick leave. In a separate investigation, someone said on Jan. 7 Geary had responded to a Facebook post about the FBI seeking information about the insurrectionists that "rats get bats," according to NBC10. Geary, a patrol officer, remains on active duty. The police department did not answer NBC10's questions about why the investigations haven't yet wrapped up some six months later.
