NEWTOWN, CT — An 85-year-old Sandy Hook woman suffered injuries to her lower legs on June 10 when the vehicle she was driving crashed into a utility pole on Castle Meadow Road near Maltbie Road, according to police.
The woman was treated in Danbury Hospital following the 6:25 p.m. crash, but no other injuries were reported.
According to Newtown police, the woman said she was driving northbound on Castle Meadow when she swerved her 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 to avoid a southbound vehicle that sped past her, which caused her to veer off the road and crash into the pole.
"There were no tire mark indicating that vehicle #1 was traveling off road before impacting the utility pole; based upon the lack of physical evidence on scene it was determined that operator #1 overcorrected and turned directly into the utility pole," Newtown police wrote in its report.
The crash remains under investigation.
