WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield police were notified of several cases of identity and internet fraud during the first week in June. In one case, a person had $3,500 stolen from his bank account. Here are the recent reports: A week ago Thursday (June 10), a resident of Summit Avenue reported being a victim of identity theft and fraud. He reported that he suffered a monetary loss of approximately $3,500 when an unknown person accessed his bank account and made a withdrawal without his approval. The resident also said the person accessed his wireless account and tried to buy a cell phone. On June 9, a woman who lives on Washington Street reported that an unknown person filed for a fraudulent unemployment benefit in her name. The resident said she had never filed for the unemployment benefit. She was advised to monitor her credit report for other fraudulent activity. On June 8, a man living on Plymouth Road said that an unknown person filed for a fraudulent unemployment benefit in his name. He said he had never filed for the unemployment benefit and was advised to monitor his credit report for other fraudulent activity. On June 7, a resident of Livingston Street also reported being a victim of unemployment fraud. He, too, told police that someone opened an unemployment claim using his information.
