OCEAN CITY, NJ — Since June is National Microchip Month, the Humane Society of Ocean City is offering discounted microchips for $20 at its shelter on Wednesday, June 30. If a lost pet doesn't have a collar with ID tags, the first thing animal control officers, shelters, and vets check for is a microchip. Microchips contain a small barcode — the size of a grain of rice — that are implanted under a pet's skin and link to the owner's information. The procedure itself takes less time than it does to fill out the registration for the chip, according to Humane Society staff.
