JERSEY CITY, NJ — As if the news that a Whole Foods was coming to Jersey City wasn't good enough, the good news just keeps coming. The planned Harborside location was approved for a liquor license renewal. That's right, Whole Foods in Jersey City could be selling wine, beer and liquor. The company was on the agenda along with several other establishments seeking renewals for the June 11 meeting for the Jersey City Alcoholic Beverage Control. If the Jersey City location follows through with the sale of alcohol, it would be just the third Whole Foods in New Jersey to follow suit — according to Jersey City Digs, only the Paramus and Middletown locations sell alcohol. There are 22 Whole Foods stores in New Jersey. The current closest Whole Foods store to Jersey City is in Weehawken or Newark. In May, Whole Foods announced a planned store expansion for 2021 and the Jersey City location was one of four in New Jersey. Whole Foods has already placed signage for the proposed store at Harborside 4A, the corner of Washington Street and Columbus Drive. There is still no hard opening date set for the Jersey City Whole Foods. Have a news tip or a story that should be told? Email Samantha Mercado at [email protected].
