In Vino Veritas: Discovering Italian Wines with Jennifer Hostetter Saturday, July 10, 2021 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Instructor: Jennifer Hostetter Italian wines are delicious, wonderfully food-friendly, and often surprisingly affordable. Yet they can also be a bit daunting, given the staggering array of available wine styles, grape varieties, and complex terminology. In fact, Italy is the largest wine producer in the world, with 20 distinct regions, over 350 indigenous grape varieties, hundreds of appellations, and a history of viticulture that stretches well into antiquity. That’s a LOT of wine! It’s no surprise, then, that the world of Italian wine can be somewhat intimidating, but it certainly doesn’t have to be. With this much versatility, there is a delicious wine for every taste and budget! In this class, we will explore some of the lesser-known wines of Italy. Together, we will sample an assortment of 6 to 8 wines from around the country in a range of different styles. In addition, we will discuss tasting notes, historical details, wine terminology, and strategies for deciphering an Italian wine label. To enhance the tasting experience, some food pairings will be included. If you are a lover of Italian food and wine, this class is perfect for you! Jennifer Hostetter is a Food and Wine Educator with a special affinity for Italian culture, where she lived while completing her master’s degree in Food Culture and Communications from the Università degli Studi di Scienze Gastronomiche.
