Description

I'm a lifelong multi-instrumentalist who has written a few songs in the past few years on themes like injustice, corporate power, environmental destruction, and speciesism, and look forward to writing more. I've also developed a great love for the brass band sound and community, especially its simplicity and versatility. So, in forging ahead with an original project, this will be an interweaving of the social justice singer-songwriter with the street brass band. It will also cover some covers as all brass bands tend to, but these will be more of the deep cuts that go beyond the pop/rock/jazz standards. LOOKING FOR: Tuba Tenor Sax Trumpet Clarinet You don't need to be a pro, but solid intonation, volume, memorization ability, and cooperative approach are essential. Ability to improvise is a big plus (yes, even on the tuba!) - as is experience in genres like klezmer and balkan music. If you play other instruments as well, let me know! I will be on drums and vocals, and a trombone player is already on board. Women, trans, nonbinary, and BIPOC preferred. Rehearsals will be either on my roof in central BK or in a TBD rehearsal space that we will split the cost of. (Recommendations are welcome!) As a freelancer obviously I'd love to make money on this, but I don't expect that to happen for a while. That said, a goal for this band is to be able to play out on the street anywhere, so busking definitely will happen. More about me - but not including the music we will be focusing on: www.wendyscher.com, IG @liberateyoself Let me know about your background and any samples you might have -- include your phone for faster response. Look forward to meeting you!
