Tony-award winner John Leguizamo shares a talk entitled "Ghetto Nerd Power" live from the Great Hall. A multi-faceted creator, Mr. Leguizamo has established a career that defies categorization. With boundless energy and creativity, his work in film, theatre, television, and literature covers a variety of genres, continually threatening to create a few of its own. He has garnered numerous other accolades throughout his career including an Emmy Award, a Drama Desk Award, as well as nominations for Tony Awards and Golden Globes. Mr. Leguizamo received a Special Tony Award at the 2018 Tony Awards after wrapping an extended Broadway run of Latin History for Morons, his latest one-man show, delivering his take on 500 years of Latin History spanning the Aztec and Incan Empires to World War II. His Ghetto Klown, a graphic novel adaptation of his Broadway one-man show of the same name, was nominated for an Eisner award. He also released a comic book, Freak, based on his solo show of the same name. PLEASE NOTE: To attend the one-night-only appearance of John Leguizamo in-person in the Great Hall, attendees must show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test taken on Monday, June 21, within six hours of the 7 pm event start time. Fully vaccinated attendees (meaning they are 14 days after their second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or 14 days after the single dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine) will need to show proof of vaccine at the door, either through the Excelsior App or a valid ID vaccination card plus government issued ID. A section for fully vaccinated guests will be reserved in the Great Hall and masks will not be required. Children under 16 who are not vaccinated may sit with family who are vaccinated provided they provide proof of a negative COVID test taken on June 21 within six hours of the 7 pm event start time and wear a mask. Attendees who are not vaccinated will need to bring proof of a negative rapid test (antigen test) taken on June 21 within six hours of the 7 pm event start time. Attendees who provide a negative rapid test will be seated in a separate section from the vaccinated attendees and will be socially distanced and required to wear masks. Attendees will enter at The Cooper Union's Astor Place entrance. The Cooper Union, est. 1859, grants degrees in art, architecture, and engineering and offers public programs for the civic, cultural and practicable enrichment of New York City.
