WESTCHESTER, NY — Sewer main work related to a bridge replacement project will once again require lane closures on a major traffic artery in southern Westchester over the weekend. The southbound lanes of the Hutchinson River Parkway will be restricted to one lane between between Exit 15 for the Cross County Parkway and Exit 6 for New England Thruway, according to a travel advisory from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). The roadwork is scheduled to take place from 10 p.m. on June 18, and continue through 4 a.m, June 20, weather permitting. No detours are expected as a result of the roadwork. The lane closures are required as part of the project to demolish and replace the Lincoln Avenue Bridge which spans the Hutchinson between Mount Vernon and Pelham. A temporary bridge is currently in place until the permanent structure is completed. This weekend's project will partially replace the sewer line that also crosses over the highway. The infrastructure improvement is part of the "Lower Westchester Bridges Bundle" to replace four bridges, renovate one other and convert a large culvert into a small bridge. NYSDOT said the project, which is focused on drainage upgrades and the reconstruction of flood-prone roadways, will improve safety during storms. The NYSDOT is urging drivers to slow down in the area during the construction demolition work, noting that fines are doubled for speeding violations in a work zone. Two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in a drivers license suspension.
