BROWARD COUNTY, FL — A Nissan Rogue heading west through Alligator Alley in Broward County was struck by lightning during a heavy rainstorm Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release. The SUV was struck by lightning just before 11:30 a.m. near mile marker 30.5. The lightning strike damaged the antenna on the roof, as well as the electrical system. The lightning also left a 7-foot-long, 4-inch-wide gouge in the highway's pavement, FHP said. The disabled SUV was towed from the scene and roadway repair crews were told about the pavement damage. The SUV's driver, a 48-year-old Naples man, was uninjured by the lightning strike, FHP said.
