Description

MEDFORD, MA — MassDOT and the cities of Medford and Somerville will implement a dedicated bus lane from 6-9 a.m. on weekdays on Mystic Avenue. The pilot program will run from Main Street in Medford to Wheatland Street in Somerville. It will officially open Monday, June 21. Last summer, the cities were awarded a grant from the state's Shared Streets and Spaces Program to implement a "quick-build" trial bus lane during peak morning hours. Dedicated bus lanes are available to MBTA buses and right turning vehicles only. The Mystic Avenue lane is on the southbound side and is open between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m on weekdays. Outside those hours, the lane will be available for all traffic or for parking where it is already available in Medford. Bus lanes are designed to increase the efficiency and reliability of public transportation, decrease delays and improve access to regional jobs and other essential services.
