WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A motorcyclist died Wednesday morning following a crash on Route 1 in Woodbridge.
According to the NJ Attorney General's Office, the motorcyclist died after a Woodbridge Township police officer attempted to pull him over.
The crash is being referred to as an accident by the attorney general's office. Investigators said it occurred shortly before 10 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Route 1 at Randolph Avenue in Woodbridge.
Authorities said a police officer activated the lights on his marked patrol vehicle in an attempt to make a traffic stop of the motorcyclist. However, the biker did not pull over.
"He continued northbound and was involved in an accident in which he was struck by a truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 10:01 a.m.," the attorney general's office said in a news release.
Because the fatal crash occurred during an encounter with a law enforcement officer on duty, the NJ Attorney General's Office is investigating the case.
