EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven police detectives worked with the U. S. Marshals Violent Fugitives Task Force in arresting Douglas Hutchings, 49, earlier this month on a warrant from Milford police for a brazen daytime armed robbery and assault of a woman, who had a child with her, in a bank parking lot in March. Hutchings, who has addresses in both New Haven and East Haven, was charged by Milford police with first-degree robbery, third-degree larceny, third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and reckless driving in connection with that robbery. Held on a $250,000 bond, he's due in court June 24. He's also expected to be facing federal weapons charges. According to the East Haven police report of the arrest of Hutchings on behalf of Milford police, officers and U.S. Marshals showed up at the Foxon Road home where Hutchings was living around 6 in the morning on June 9. After placing him under arrest, a court-issued search warrant was executed and that's when detectives found a Volcanic .22 Type G black revolver starter pistol with an ivory handle. And, a pistol cartridge. As Hutchings is also a suspect in robberies in New Haven and West Haven, investigators realized that the gun is the same as one used by a suspect in a New Haven robbery. And, the face mask Hutchings was wearing when he was arrested, described as a "dark colored facemask with a gray colored pattern," the report by East Haven police Detective John Fraenza reads, is the same as one seen being worn by the New Haven robbery suspect. East Haven police charged Hutchings with a firearms charge in connection with the starter pistol. Read the full story on Hutchings here.
