Press release from City of San Ramon: 06/16/2021 Heat Advisory Wed – Fri The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 16 through 9 p.m. on Friday, June 18. The Heat Advisory includes the East Bay Interior Valleys and East Bay Hills. Temperatures are projected to be well above average and widespread highs from the low 90s to low 100s. Read More from the National Weather Service Heat and Your Heath Tips from Contra Costa Health Services: Drink water - don't wait until you're thirsty Don't leave children or pets in vehicles Limit outdoor physical activity Keep shades drawn and blinds closed Open windows to cooling breezes in the evenings More Information on Heat and Your Health from Contra Costa Health Services Flex Alert – Thu, June 17 The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has issued a Flex Alert for Thursday, June 17 asking consumers and businesses to conserve energy between the hours of 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. A Flex Alert is a call for voluntary conserving of electricity when there is an anticipated high energy demand. When consumers reduce electricity use during a Flex Alert, it can prevent the need for power outages. To prepare for a Flex Alert, consumers are urged to manage their energy use prior to 5 p.m. by using energy during the mid-day, when you are likely using energy supplies produced from renewable solar resources. Tips to Manage Energy Use Before 5 p.m.: Pre-cool your home or work space by lowering your thermostat Use major appliances (dishwasher, washer and dryer) Close window coverings Charge electronic devices and electric vehicles Tips to Manage Energy Use After 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher Avoid using major appliances Turn off unnecessary lights Flex Alert Resources: FlexAlert.org provides energy conservation tips in four languages and allows consumers to sign up for alerts; and to sign-up for CAISO notifications directly. Cooling Centers in Contra Costa County Contra Costa County's Employment & Human Services Department (EHSD) has the below locations open as cooling centers through Friday, June 18, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Community and staff members MUST wear masks, regardless of vaccination status, upon entering EHSD cooling centers. To get relief from the high temperatures, visit these EHSD District Offices: Antioch 4545 Delta Fair Blvd. Pleasant Hill 400 Ellinwood Way Martinez 40 Douglas Drive Hercules 151 Linus Pauling Richmond 1305 Macdonald Water and face coverings will be available, as well as lobby seating (without a social distancing requirement). Each office will also provide access to charging station kiosks in the public lobbies. Community members should NOT go to this EHSD office if exposed to or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.
