Dear Good Samaritan,
I normally wouldn't comment but I feel puzzled by this post and it actually stuck in my head the last time I read it (a day or two ago). It reappeared today and once again I was struck by something..
I think it's a wonderful gesture to offer help in this capacity..top notch neighborly action. What I couldn't shake was the overwhelming wave of disdain I felt coming off of it. Even so far as to bring an almost belligerent defensiveness to a question no one asked..ie your sexuality.
It was like you were saying everything with a mouthful of lemons and spiderwebs.
Now, I can imagine that opening up ones wallet to the masses on CL invites... a lot. Perhaps too much for most people's comfort level. Rather than put folks through what looks to be a rather rigorous audition that you clearly don't enjoy... why not quietly give the money to your vetted local food bank?
Or is this maybe more about you being able to both virtue signal and judge simultaneously?
Food for thought anyway.
(Edit: Today's posting seems to have disappeared rather quickly. This is referring to an offer of $100 in groceries by a donor who would interview, then take recipient shopping for approved items.)
