Clackamas County Government: New Signs Improve Traffic Safety On County Rural Roads

Press release from the Clackamas County Government: 6/16/2021 Reducing serious injury and fatal crashes by alerting travelers of changing conditions ahead is the goal of installing more than 2,500 new curve and stop ahead warning signs on rural roads in Clackamas County. The county's Drive to Zero Safety Action Plan calls for system-wide safety improvements that are proven to reduce crashes. This proactive solution is funded by the Oregon Department of Transportation's (ODOT) All Roads Transportation Safety Program (ARTS), with an 8% match from Clackamas County. New signs will be placed throughout rural Clackamas County, as follows: 82 intersections will be made safer by: Adding a second stop sign to the left side of the intersection, Adding a second intersection warning sign to the left side of the road, Adding new or larger large double arrow signs at T-intersections, and Adding or improving pavement markings and adding reflective markings. 21 corridors covering 110 miles of roads will be made safer by: Adding advance curve warning signs, and Adding chevron signs to help guide drivers around curves. All the new signs are expected to be installed by the end of summer 2021. You'll see flaggers in work zones to safely guide traffic, but delays should be minimal.
