ELMHURST, IL — Commenters on an Elmhurst-focused Facebook page this week wondered why the school district was replacing York High School's track.
On the Elmhurst, IL News and Comment page, the discussion started with a person saying he had just run on the track a week earlier and that it was fine. He said it was only about 10 years old.
Others joined in the criticism, while a few said they did not have all the facts.
Patch asked Elmhurst School District 205's spokeswoman, Beverly Redmond, about what was wrong with the track and how old the current one was.
In her response, Redmond did not say how old the track was, but said, "The track was past its life-cycle and is now being replaced."
She said the track project was part of District 205's athletic field redevelopment plans included in the $168 million bond issue, which voters passed in 2018.
