Calabasas Receives Stimulus Fund Boost

CALABASAS, CA — Calabasas will receive 26% larger stimulus payment than originally expected, the city announced Thursday. In March, the city learned that it might receive $4.4 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, which is awarding a total of around $16 billion to California cities. Calabasas is now expected to be awarded a total of $5.7 million. The city will receive about half of that total shortly, and the remaining a half a year from now. The City Council will discuss how to spend the extra money at a special meeting on June 29, and the public is encouraged to weigh in. "The City of Calabasas was very grateful to receive its initial allocation of funding under the stimulus bill, and is pleasantly surprised at this latest development," Mayor James Bozajian said in a statement. Cities with under 50,000 residents generally received more than initially reported, while larger cities received less. Agoura Hills will receive $4.8 million (up from $3.8 million), Malibu will receive $2.8 billion (up from $2.2 billion), Hidden Hills will receive $452,000 (up from $355,000) and Westlake Village will receive $1.9 million (up from $1.5 million.)
