Description

WOBURN, MA — Woburn firefighters quickly put out an apartment fire on Westgate Drive Tuesday. The fire in a third-floor apartment at 18 Westgate Drive displaced residents but did not cause any injuries, Chief Donald Kenton said. The call came in around 3 p.m. Tuesday and firefighters saw heavy fire coming from the third-floor apartment when they arrived. "They quickly knocked it down, entered the apartment and made sure everybody got out," Kenton said. "Everybody was out on all three levels." Firefighters then checked the building for any remaining fire. The scene was cleared around 4:30 p.m. "It was pretty straightforward. The guys did a great job knocking it down, checking it for extension and making sure it was completely out," the chief said. "Just a real good, quality job by the Woburn Fire Department." There was enough damage to the third-floor apartment that the family was displaced, Kenton said. The two apartments below had water damage. Kenton estimated damage at around $40,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Winchester provided mutual aid while Reading and Burlington firefighters covered the East and West Woburn fire stations.
