Position Summary below, to apply please apply directly here: Compensation: $14.50 Hourly (range 18hrs/week); Evenings, Sat & Sun (2:30-4:30pm) – (9:00-11:00pm) & Mon (3:00-5:00pm) – (8:00-10:00pm). More hours depending on coverage. Flexible start and end times in the range above to work with your schedule. Position Summary: Responsible for performing essential custodial functions to prepare the Museum for visitation the following day. Interfaces with staff and groups utilizing Museum facilities after hours. Secures Museum galleries and offices, performs regular review of public areas and parking lots; conducts final securing of doors and setting of alarm system. Specific Responsibilities: • Reports promptly for shift at 4:30 pm for a supervisor check-in, debrief, and to close and secure exhibit galleries and office areas at 5 pm. • Assumes custodial duties of cleaning public rest rooms, all exhibit halls, administration, and other areas as needed to ensure the museum is ready to receive visitors and guests on the following morning. • Cleaning of public restrooms includes: cleaning toilets, urinals, sinks, walls with disinfectant solutions, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning mirrors and removal of trash, etc. • Cleaning of administration and hallways includes any or all of the following: dusting, mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, emptying of trash and recycle cans, and removal of trash, etc. • Cleaning of exhibit halls includes any or all of the following: dusting, exhibit glass and Plexiglass cleaning with appropriate solutions and vacuuming and/or mopping, etc. • Cleaning of non-public areas around the museum as directed by supervisor. • Surveys grounds (including parking lot) at least one time per shift and makes observations related to lighting and safety issues, noting these in DAR. • Keeps a Daily Activity Report (DAR) either handwritten or by computer at a station provided by the museum noting any irregularities, incidents of missing and defective equipment, safety hazards, security issues, suspicious activities, injuries and property damage. • Submits DAR to supervisor at the end of the shift for review, action, and archiving by supervisor. • Notifies authorities of any unusual, potential criminal activity on or near museum grounds. Additionally, notifies museum management and/or supervisor of these incidents. • Provides assistance to individuals and groups at museum events and meetings, including, but not limited to, use of museum resources (tables, extension cords, etc.) ensuring their safe return, opening doors and operating climate control systems. • Secures the parking lot at the end of the working shift, and calls alarm monitoring company to verify that all alarms have been properly set. • Other duties as assigned. Essential Requirements: • Frequent standing, walking, bending, sitting, climbing (stairs), and lifting of moderate to heavy loads (60 lbs.). • Good auditory skills with a full range of hearing. • Good vision including acuity and depth perception • Comfortable working around the general public. • Able to respond to emergency situations and interface with emergency responders and museum management personnel. • Able to safely operate electric utility vehicle. • Must present a professional demeanor in dress and interactions with public and authorities. Partial uniforms will be supplied (shirts). • Basic computer skills to record security logs and communicate with supervisor. • Current Driver’s License with an acceptable motor vehicle record Work Environment: • Frequent work throughout all Museum facilities including meeting facilities, galleries, exhibit halls, presentation halls, research laboratories, storage rooms, and maintenance and/or metal/wood shop. • Frequent work outdoors, walking grounds at night and in inclement weather. The incumbent must be able to perform each requirement of the position as outlined in the job description.
