A: Because that's how the GOP trained them to feel. The GOP constantly manufacturers imaginary things to be afraid of so it can cast itself as the protector from these things. They're simply copying the Mafia protection racket where they deploy some thugs to the neighborhood and then send in a couple different goons to offer to protect the businesses. For a price. The GOP doesn't even have to send in real goons. Just the made up threat of "Communists!", "They're coming to take your guns!", "The sky is falling", is enough to panic the truly stupid. The price for protection is only their votes.
