Description
Everyone adopted a dog, cat, bird, reptile or rodent during Covid and enjoyed their company. The pets kept us all sane and exercised and people seemed eager to take any animal available.
But as soon as vacation season rolls around, the kids are out of school, people go back to work - animals get dumped for the most minor reasons. YES... pet care is expensive, vets are expensive, pet sitters will add to the cost of your vacation and animals get lonely and destructive when left alone all day! If you decide to dump your pet at the shelter where it might be euthanized or give it to other people who... might just pass it on due to the behavioral challenges you did not mention so you could " recoup" some of your money - at least realize that you are not fit to own a pet again.... Don't make the same mistake twice... next time THINK before you adopt and tale the responsibility for a LIFE... Animals should not be disposable toys... Plan for expenses... that means having a few thousand $$ on your account at all times for the unplanned intestinal blockage or illness/ injury that will inevitably happen on a weekend when your vet is closed and you'll have to pay the tripple emergency room fees, and an extra budget for a petsitter, daycare... It simply boggles my mind how people can disregard animals - you dog and cat is likely not happier with someone else... they bonded to YOU- they will hurt and they will be depressed and you will break their heart... I have fostered and adopted many second hand dog and it takes on the average... a YEAR for the pups and kitties to really trust 100% again... food for thought... plenty of petsitters out there willing to help - ask our neighbor's child to walk that pup for a few $$ - network with your neighbors - many will trade petsitting... And please... dogs and cats and birds and small animals move just fine... I travel with all kinds of pets... they do better than my children...
