Description

Many people shy away from singing. This workshop explains why and shows you how to enjoy singing for your own pleasure and health. What is the story of your voice? Did someone tell you not to sing? My heart aches when I hear this again and again. I don't blame anyone but I do want to help you free your voice. "If you can walk you can dance. If you can talk you can sing." This is a wonderful African proverb. Everyone is meant to sing and dance - for community building, for personal health, for emotional processing, and for great joy! If you feel called to release some new part of your voice, of your words, of your self, I hope you will join us. No singing experience needed. We will talk about the voice and its role in our lives, then we will sing a few songs and you will learn how to write a simple song for yourself. These short chant style songs are often called medicine songs because they are a wonderful dose of personalized healing! Songs are taught by ear in a call and response style. Everything is optional! You are welcome to hum or to tap along until you feel comfortable adding your voice to the song. No pressure here, just finding what is joyful. This workshop is one of three similar workshops. The following workshop will teach you to make up your own songs from listening to your body and soul, and the last workshop in this series will teach you to create songs from listening to nature. They are all led by Oly Song Mama, Fehlya Ehrlander. To read her bio and check out her other services, visit www.olysongmama.com COVID: We will be outside. (Please bring water and comfort measures according to the weather. ) 15 participants maximum. We will wear masks upon entering and when leaving the area. When we talk and sing, we will maintain social distancing in our circle. There is a Covid release waiver to sign prior to participation. Thank You!
