Abundant Life Bible Church will host a kid friendly event to educate parents, children and youth about personal and community safety. Abundant Life Bible Church will host a kid friendly Child Empowerment and Safety Ice Cream Social at its campus located at 5405 36th Street in Hyattsville, MD on Saturday, July 10, 2021, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The event will provide children and parents an opportunity to learn safety measures geared to children, and obtain preventative educational materials and other resources, such as child identification kits and fingerprinting. Through social media and other sources, residents of the Washington , DC Metropolitan area have become aware of reports of missing person alerts of children and juveniles in the area. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, approximately 800,000 people go missing in this country yearly. Further, approximately 400,000 of those reported to be missing annually are children. Some missing children are runaways but others are exploited and lured away from their homes. Parents and caregivers can help children feel empowered and teach them to protect themselves by taking advantage of available tools and resources that will be offered in a safe and non-threatening environment. The Child Empowerment and Safety Ice Cream Social will provide both children and parents preventive measures to help keep children safe and protect against exploitation.
