Description
Taiji is an effective way to slow down and become more self-aware in a hectic world, and boost your immune system. TAIJI/TAI CHIThe martial art, internal art and philosophy of Taiji is vast, and this beginners course will give participants an introduction to the art that is easy to follow. The entirety of the course will focus on Taiji foundations and developing the Taiji body with traditional stretching, elements of qigong, and jibengong. A Harvard health journal described Taiji as "medication in motion", stating that "this mind-body practice, which originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating or preventing many health problems." (1) Our teachers at Wudang Daoist Traditional Kungfu Academy explains that "Taiji should have a connection to breathing and therefore to your cardiovascular health. Any exercise should have this pairing, but with Taiji the emphasis is special. We must coordinate our movements with breath work in order to properly engage the body and work out past imbalances." TAIJI/TAI CHI Taiji Chuan is the balancing interaction of yin and yang and translated to English Taiji/Tai Chi means “the cosmos” or “supreme ultimate.” In a holistic form Taiji combines martial arts, internal energy flow, health benefits, spiritual development and philosophy. I am delighted to share the skills I have cultivated through my training with the Elkhart community. Through dedicated practice we are always learning and growing with Taiji. We use Taiji to cultivate ourselves and learn to develop and understand feeling in our bodies and how to integrate that into movement. Practice necessitates and promotes a relaxed and focused mind and emotional state. The meditative energy flow focus in Taiji is known as Qi gong. It is a practice that incorporates breathing techniques and specific movements and postures to help adjust balance in a practitioner’s body and mind, heighten feeling, internal awareness, and bodily communication, and to promote an overall more balanced and healthy existence. As a result of aligning the consciousness and the body in more harmonious communication with each other, we find the body healthier, with a stronger immunity to protect against invasive forces like sickness and disease. INSTRUCTOR Instructor Charlis began training Wudang Sanfeng Pai Taiji Chuan in 2017 under the tutelage of Master Alexander Ivanov, 16th generation disciple of Wudang Sanfeng Pai Taiji Chuan. At present we will be hosting classes in the Elkhart, Mishawaka and South Bend areas.
