Basic Job Description: Install brick, block and stone mostly to construct walls or other structures. Masonry laborers have many responsibilities relating to the concrete operations. Preparation of areas for the placement of concrete involves final excavation of dirt and rock. May also work in support of block masons installing masonry work. In this role, handle bags of cement, lime, sand, and grout. Responsible for transporting and stocking blocks and bricks to be installed by the masons. In addition to supporting the other crafts on the project, laborers have general cleanup and supply duties on the jobsite. Laborers are responsible for general cleanup, sweeping, and removal of debris throughout the project. Essential job functions include: • Lift and carry objects and materials of various weights. • Repetitive climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and reaching over head. • Use of hands and wrists with various tools. • Use of wheelbarrows and brooms. • Repetitive use of hands and wrists using power, rotational, and vibration tools. • Tolerate legally permissible exposure to dusts and chemicals, such as cement dust, solvents, and curing compounds Duties/Qualifications: • 3-4 years of experience • Measure distance from reference points and mark guidelines to lay out work. • Figure and mark angles and courses and determine vertical and horizontal alignment of courses. • Attach brick or similar building materials to structure. • Cut bricks, blocks and stone to size, using trowel edge, hammer, or power saw. • Spread and smooth mortar with a trowel. • Remove excess mortar with trowels and hand tools, and finish mortar joints with jointing tools uniformly to properly seal joints. • Examine masonry structures to determine need for repair • Remove damaged brick, block, or mortar, using chisels, chipping hammers, or bars. • Must have adequate transportation
