WALTHAM, MA — The Waltham Health Department is feeling grateful. As the number of reported cases of the coronavirus decreases each week, the number of those getting a little jab in their arms is going up. Some 61 percent of Waltham residents have had at least one dose of the vaccine, as of last week, according to the state. That's 40,602 of a population estimated to be around 66,447. Some 53 percent were fully vaccinated as of June 10. More than 90 percent of Waltham residents 65 and older had at least one dose of the vaccine, according to state data. It was 79 percent of those between the ages of 50 and 64 who had at least one jab. And 77 percent of those 30 to 49 had one dose. Less than 51 percent of age groups younger than that had at least one dose. With all of that in the forefront the Waltham Health Department, which had fielded calls and calling those in the city to help trace the path of the virus, found a little time to express their gratitude for the work of residents, business owners and even visitors for their diligence amid the pandemic. "The COVID-19 Pandemic unfolded quickly, and drastically shifted every aspect of our daily lives. You ALL have been such an integral part of stopping the spread of COVID-19 in our community, and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this unprecedented time," the city said in a statement. As of June 10, there were 5,644 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Waltham since the beginning of the pandemic. Michelle Feeley, director of the Waltham Health Department
