Description
NATICK, MA — Amazon will soon roll out its newest shopping innovation at the Natick Mall.
The Amazon One payment system allows shoppers to use their handprint to pay for items. The system will soon be available at the Amazon 4-Star store in Natick, which sells the website's highest rated items.
"After a customer inserts a credit card into the Amazon One device, they hover their palm over the device and follow the prompts to associate that card with the unique palm signature being built in real-time for them by our computer vision technology," the company said in a news release. "They can enroll one palm or both, and that's it — they're now signed up."
Amazon One is already available at the Amazon Books store in Dedham. Apart from Natick, the palmprint payment system will soon be available at the Amazon Books store in Lynnfield. The company did not give a date when the system will appear in Natick.
Amazon previously shook up shopping norms when it began opening Amazon Go stores, where customers don't have to pass through a checkout counter. The stores have sensors that tracks items shoppers pick out, and then charges their Amazon account when they walk out of the store. So far, those stores are only open in Chicago, New York City, Seattle and San Francisco.
