MARLBOROUGH, MA — The city has named the six local students who earned money for college through the annual taxpayer-funded Marlborough scholarship program. This year's $1,000 prizes were funded through donations made by city residents while paying water and sewer bills. The number of students varies each year based on donations, but the city initially projected only five would get a scholarship in 2021. The four Marlborough High School students who got an award were: Taylor Barber, Brooke Bishop, Allyson Trinh and Amelia Carlman. They will attend Endicott College, Boston University and Worcester State. One student is still deciding which college to attend. The winners from Assabet Regional Technical High School were Makenna Nobel and Ryan Fettig. Those students will attend Palm Beach Atlantic University and St. Anselm College. Each spring, the city invites local graduating seniors to apply for the scholarships. The city's Scholarship Committee reviews each application and selects the winners.
