ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that ALEXANDER CONTOMPASIS, 38, of Albany, was arraigned before Honorable Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court this morning for his alleged role in a stabbing that took place outside of the New York State Capitol building on January 6, 2021.
An Albany County Grand Jury previously returned an indictment alleging (1) Count of Assault in the First Degree, a Class B Violent Felony, (2) Counts of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, each Class C Violent Felonies, (1) Count of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony, and (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony.
The indictment alleges that on January 6, 2021, at approximately 12:15 P.M., while in the area of the East Capitol Park in the City of Albany, CONTOMPASIS allegedly stabbed two individuals with an illegally possessed knife, resulting in physical injury to one victim and serious physical injury to the second.
CONTOMPASIS pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on previously set bail. Assistant District Attorney David Szalda and Assistant District Attorney Marissa Olsen are handling the prosecution of this case.
