Groton Man Wanted In Domestic Violence Assault

GROTON, CT — Police are searching for a man in connection with a domestic violence incident. Douglas Demelo is accused of assaulting a victim with a beer bottle, causing significant injuries to the victim's head and lacerations to the victim's chest. Police received a call 1 a.m. Monday from New London police regarding a victim who had been brought to the emergency room for non-life-threatening injuries. Police interviewed the victim, then went to a Groton home to investigate. When police arrived at the home, Demelo had fled the scene. He is wanted on charges of second-degree assault, three counts of risk of injury to a child, three counts of violation of a protective order, and second-degree breach of peace. Police described him as a 34-year-old man, 5'8" to 5'10" tall, 200-210 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone who may know Demelo's whereabouts or has further information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Groton Town Police Department at (860) 441-6712. Anyone who sees Demelo should not confront him, they should call 911 immediately, police said.
