Description

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A Santa Cruz company accidentally sent a customer the link to a Google Spreadsheet with customer data, Vice's Motherboard reported. Onewheel, an electric skateboard company, sent a customer with an inquiry the wrong link: a spreadsheet containing 50,000 entries dating back to 2014, with information such as full names, email addresses, home addresses and skateboard serial numbers, Motherboard reported. Privacy settings on the Google Spreadsheet made it possible for anyone to see the link, though they could not modify its contents. Onewheel Founder and CEO Kyle Doerksen told Motherboard the disclosure affected a minority of its customers and did not contain sensitive information such as credit card or driver's license information. The link was immediately removed and Onewheel has taken steps to ensure the mistake will not happen again, the business told Motherboard. Onewheel did not respond to a request for comment from Patch.
