HOBOKEN, NJ — Nothing gets Hoboken residents to comment on social media like the sound of unexpected fireworks — well, except perhaps fights over the best pizza, best sandwich, or best mozzarella in town. But often, a surprise firework celebration in New York City elicits resident questions on social media. [UPDATE: Here is a video of Hobokenites enjoying the fireworks from Pier A Park.] So just so no one's surprised, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday that fireworks would be set off across New York state to celebrate the end of some COVID restrictions, amid a vaccination rate of over 70 percent. In honor of the lifting of nearly all COVID restrictions, and in gratitude of our essential workers, we'll have fireworks across the state to celebrate. Look out for them at 9:15pm! — Andrew Cuomo (@NYGovCuomo) June 15, 2021 The fireworks will blast off Tuesday at 9:15 p.m. from New York Harbor and other locations in the state. The Empire State Building and other skyscrapers will be lit up in the state's colors. If you want to watch fireworks with more notice, Jersey City recently announced that they will have theirs after sunset on July 4.
