PENNSYLVANIA — Pennsylvania is reaching some of the lowest numbers of the pandemic, as its percent positivity rate on COVID-19 tests is now all the way down to 1.9 percent. That's a drop of a full percentage point from last week, and a drop of nearly 8 points from late April, when the the fourth wave of the virus was in full swing. Gov. Tom Wolf urged residents to get the vaccine as the state works to reach a coveted benchmark of fully vaccinating 70 percent of adults. "We are seeing COVID-19 case counts increasing at a much lower pace, but we still see Pennsylvanians contract the virus each day," Gov. Wolf said in a statement. "As you learn about the benefits of getting vaccinated, consider telling your family and friends more about it and encourage them to get the best protection to fight COVID-19 and make your community a safer place." Currently, 57.5 percent of all adults in the state are fully vaccinated. The goal stands to reach the 70 percent mark by the end of June. The total number of new cases over the last seven days, meanwhile, fell down to 2,044. The previous week's rate stood at 3,050, marking a drop of more than a thousand. Healthcare metrics all continue to show decline, as well. The average daily number of COVID hospitalizations has dropped from 971 to 688, while average daily ventilator usage has dropped from 139 to 101. On the county level, 62 counties have a positivity rate that is at least below 5 percent, while no counties are over 20 percent. There are 22 counties in the low transmission category, 44 in the moderate category, and one in substantial.
