Brush Fire Scorches 50 Acres Near Santa Fe Dam

LOS ANGELES, CA — A 50-acre brush fire is burning in Santa Fe Dam area of Irwindale, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Amid extreme heat and dry conditions, the blaze quickly spread Tuesday afternoon. The blaze is burning in thick brush, and a large thick plume of smoke could be seen for miles around. The county's water-dropping helicopters are battling the blaze from above. The Los Angeles County Fire Department was called to the scene in Irwindale just after 5 p.m. near a homeless encampment, CBS reported. By 6:25, it had scorched 50 acres. Crews stopped the fire's progress by about 7:05 p.m., the fire department reported. Crews remained on the scene to extinguish remaining hot spots. No structures were threatened by the fire and no injures were reported. A brush fire has been reported around the Santa Fe Dam recreation area.
