KANE COUNTY, IL — Kane County Health Department officials announced Wednesday the mass vaccination site in Aurora is closing permanently.
Those who had scheduled a vaccination appointment at the Aurora location will be rescheduled for an appointment at the KaneVax Hub on Randall Road in Batavia. Health officials said the Aurora Vax Site provided almost 27,000 COVID-19 vaccines to residents, but that the site is no longer needed due to decreasing demand.
"With the help of [our] partners, we were able to provide protection against this virus when the demand for vaccine was greatest," said KCHD Interim Executive Director Kathy Fosser.
The City of Aurora, Illinois National Guard, nurses from Amita Health, Kane County Medical Reserve Corps, volunteers from Aurora Fire Department and Waubonsee Community College all contributed to running the location and distributing vaccines since the site opened on April 2.
"The site served the community well," said Fosser.
