CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — On Saturday, Coventry Village will celebrate Juneteenth with a daylong slate of festivities.
Activities start at noon and continue through 9 p.m. More than 30 Black-owned businesses will be featured in the vendor market, crowds can enjoy live music by Mourning [A] BLKstar, local poets, authors, speakers, faith leaders and others will speak, and the Marvel film "Black Panter" will be screened for free in Coventry PEACE Park.
Coventry Village merchants will run a sidewalk sale during the day, and family activities will be held through the Heights Libraries and Lake Erie Ink, including: face painting, field day, crafts, basketball, and creative workshops.
There will also be free refreshments for visitors and discounted shopping for shoppers.

Juneteenth, which is short for June 19th, is a 155-year-old holiday that celebrates the emancipation of African Americans from slavery in the United States.
"Juneteenth today celebrates African-American freedom and achievement, while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures," according to Juneteenth.com in an explanation of the holiday.
