Press release from the Atlanta Police Department: 06/16/2021 As part of APD's Summer Plan, patrols have been increased in key areas throughout the city and officers have been focused on addressing armed and violent criminals. Last week's response to a shots fired call is another example showing our efforts are paying off. Officers were nearby when a shots fired call was dispatched on Peachtree Road, near Bennett Street. Officers quickly located and safely apprehended the suspect a short distance away.   211610291 On 6-10-2021, at around 5:30 AM, officers were dispatched to a call regarding shots fired in the area of 2121 Peachtree Road. Officers quickly responded to the area and located a male walking along Peachtree Street with a handgun in his hand. Officers requested additional units respond and coordinated approaching the man in a safe manner. Once additional officers were on scene, officers approached the man and detained him without issue. Officers recovered a handgun a short distance from the man where he had discarded it, as he walked. The man admitted the weapon was his and stated he had pulled it after an unknown male approached him aggressively. He further stated he dropped weapon and it discharged and then he kicked it after that and it discharged again.   Officers did not locate anyone injured during the incident.
