My philosophy is "Everything I ever needed to know about business I learned on the sports field." From Behind The Scoreboard, I feature the sports stories that tell us much more than simply who won or lost. These personal and inspiring experiences of grade school, high school, college, other amateur and even pro athletes allow all of us to reflect a little more on what is important in life. ~ James C. Metzger, Chairman and CEO, The Whitmore Agency _______ Fields Are Filled With Beautiful People About 100 youth and young adults, along with their parents and volunteers, whooped it up on the ball fields in Orange County a few weeks ago. Beautiful People is a 14-year-old charity that unites athletes, parents and volunteers. It is part of the national adaptive baseball Miracle League. The program, for ages six to 32, supports young people with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and other health concerns. After about a year away from the fields due to the pandemic, though remaining engaged through virtual programs, the athletes were overjoyed to play ball again with old friends while a few first-timers received their introduction to the game of baseball and the fun of meeting new friends. Even Elsa, a black lab service dog, got into the action. Read more about the programs of Beautiful People in my blog. _______ COVID has affected eligibility in ways that I’ll be able to play for another year—while pursuing a master’s degree in the business school after graduating in May. That’s something that I wouldn’t have been able to do, so I try to take it as a blessing in disguise, really. And my goal of getting drafted into the NFL is the same; it’s just pushed back. ~ A collegiate athlete affected by the pandemic.
