Description
Conduct inspections of residential properties, inside and outside the structure, including structural, electrical, plumbing, appliances, smoke detectors, safety, etc., based on the inspection guidelines established by HUD. Training in HUD’s Housing Quality Standards provided. Involves substantial driving from one location to another (no over-night stays required) and exposure to adverse weather conditions, in addition to work performed in an office setting. Requires a good driving record, good organizational skills and attention to detail, good comprehension of filing systems, general office procedures and grammar. Ability to multi-task, good computer skills are essential. Must be able to work with the public. Company car is provided. Essential Work Activities • Operating Vehicle • Schedules inspections • Performs and documents inspections of units in the voucher programs for compliance with Housing Quality Standards • Prepares and submits reports that summarize all deficiencies noted during the inspections, inclusive of the recommended corrective action to be taken • Notifies owners and residents in writing of specific HQS violations so deficiencies can be corrected with the time specified by HUD • Advises owners and property managers on how to correct deficiencies in order to meet HQS standards • Reports emergency issues for repair to landlord; follows up on repairs • Observes and records property characteristics • Prepares reports and written correspondence as required and ensures records are maintained in compliance with Program regulations • Performs clerical duties associated with inspection such as typing, computer data entry, copying, faxing, scanning, preparing correspondence and maintaining files • Establishes a viable working relationship with property owners or management agents Qualifications • High School Diploma or equivalent required • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred to better serve our clientele • Knowledge of basic housing and building codes preferred • Skilled in basic research techniques • Prefer some experience in a position related to construction or building trades or maintenance • Some knowledge of appropriated building and sanitation codes is desirable.
