Mary Dibbern, Courtney Maina, & Christopher Leach Mary Dibbern is beginning her 9th season at The Dallas Opera as Music Director of Education and Family Programs. She received her Master of Music in piano from Southern Methodist University (Dallas, TX), studying collaborative piano with Maestro Paul Vellucci. In 1978, she moved to Paris, France, to study with Nadia Boulanger and accompany in the studios of Pierre Bernac and Gérard Souzay. Living in Paris for 31 years, she worked internationally as an opera coach for the Opéra National de Paris and other major companies in France, Europe, Asia and the US. She has extensive recital and recording credits with Radio France, Claves, Harmonia Mundi France, Maguelone, Toccata Classics and JTP Productions. She has written eight books on French opera and song repertoire for Pendragon Press (NY) and her editions of vocal music are published by Musik Fabrik (Paris) and Classical Vocal Reprints (USA). This season she will collaborate with TDO’s Education department for productions of Bizet’s Dr Miracle and John Davis’s The Bremen Town Musicians. She is currently a PhD candidate in Humanities at the University of Texas at Dallas. Soprano Courtney Maina, a native of Houston, Texas, received degrees in Vocal Performance from Sam Houston State University (BA, 2012) and Southern Methodist University (MM, 2015) where she performed Adele (Die Fledermaus), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Papagena (The Magic Flute), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), Mrs. Hayes (Susannah) and Serpetta (La finta giardiniera). She has been engaged by The Dallas Opera’s Education and Outreach program for four seasons as a Teaching Artist and as Touring Artist in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex with the roles of Despina (The Three Little Pigs) and Dorabella (The Bremen Town Musicians). Maina is in demand as a recitalist for The Puccini Society, Winnsboro Center for the Arts, The Dallas Opera Guild, Preston Hollow UMC and St Matthew’s Cathedral Arts, where she has performed in recitals and videos and in 2021 will be featured in a CD of songs by American composer Mary Howe for Toccata Classics (London). In 2022, she will make her Dallas Opera main stage debut in Rossini’s Barber of Seville. In addition to her love of singing, she enjoys crafting, reading, and she especially loves to cook and bake for her family and friends. “Anytime I can spoil others with cooking/ baking, sign me up!” Tenor Christopher A. Leach (a native of Kingsville, Texas), performs regularly in the Dallas-Ft Worth metroplex with The Dallas Opera’s Education and Outreach productions including the title role of Doctor Miracle, Eddie Pensier (The Bremen Town Musicians), Miguel (Pépito), Don Giovanni (The Three Little Pigs), and Dandini (The Billy Goats Gruff). With the Fort Worth Opera, he created the role of Senator Ralph Yarborough in David T. Little’s opera JFK (2016). Other notable roles include Don Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro), Donald (Gallantry), Don Hilarión (La Verbena de la Paloma) and Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi). Mr. Leach is active as recitalist for The Dallas Opera Guild, The Puccini Society, Preston Hollow UMC, St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts and the Winnsboro Center for the Performing Arts. Toccata Classics (London) will produce his premiere CD recording of songs by American composer Mary Howe in Fall of 2021. Between rehearsals for his current projects, Christopher spends his time rock climbing - taking in the views atop the cliffs at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch as often as he can, and coaching younger climbers; immersing himself in the fantastic stories and graphics of video games; and catching up on the backlogs of books he has yet to read.
