Description
IndieScene presents this film as part of our Screening Series to support the 2020 SXSW films & filmmakers canceled due to the pandemic. The Film: Rachel (Lynn Chen) lives in idle luxury with a cheating husband, Professor Erika (Ayako Fujitani) juggles career demands while raising her daughter Sachiko (newcomer Ayami Riley Tomine), and struggling musician Yea-Ming (Yea-Ming Chen) is still chasing a fast-fading dream. Three women who could not be more different have one thing in common: their flawed romantic history with singer-songwriter Goh Nakamura (himself). When the amiable but unreliable Goh ambles back into town and into their lives, the past comes roaring back. This semi-sequel to SURROGATE VALENTINE (SXSW 2011) and DAYLIGHT SAVINGS (SXSW 2012) revisits the characters in a stand-alone story with a fresh new perspective. ** Q&A featuring live musical performances by Yea-Ming Chen and Goh Nakamura! ** Notable Presenters: Angry Asian Man, Asian American Girl Club, Diaspora, The Jane Club, Kollaboration, Visual Communications (LA Asian American Pacific FF). ** Q&A Facilitated by Kulap Vilaysack @IWMYMfilm #ScreeningSeries2021 “A female-forward work with three generously drawn roles for Asian women actors.” - Variety “I Will Make You Mine” is about transitions and crossroads, its characters learning that processing disappointment is as essential as pursuing love.” - The NY Times “It’s always refreshing to see a romantic comedy that is in touch with reality. Chen and “I Will Make You Mine” acknowledge that romance is as much about ourselves, our hang-ups, and our blindspots as it our partners.” - Women and Hollywood FAQs: This event will follow current COVID-19 guidelines for county, state, and federal safety.
