TAMPA, FLA — Danny Hernandez has always had a passion for grilling, but he also understands the importance of giving back to his community in meaningful ways. On Tuesday, Hernandez — the owner and founder of Tampa-based Grill And Provisions — did the first of what he hopes will be many "Egg Drops" when he delivered a new Big Green Egg grill and supplies to Tampa Fire and Rescue as part of a new initiative. Hernandez created the "Eggs For Heroes" program to provide grills, supplies and food to local firefighters. His goal is to provide all 23 Tampa fire departments with an XL Big Green Egg grill package, which includes charcoal and other supplies along with enough food to prepare the first meal for local firefighters. "The reality is these fire fighters are working long hours and trying to cook a meal while their lives are non-stop and on the line," Hernandez said in a news release. "The least we could do is facilitate them grilling and chilling in the station the same way we grill and chill in our backyards because of the safety that they provide and that they're on call for us." As part of the initiative, Hernandez is seeking from the local business community to help provide grill packages to more local fire departments. Grill And Provisions is seeking 12 sponsorships at $2,500 each to cover the cost of the package for two fire departments. A plaque will be displayed at the firehouse will include the name of the sponsor, who will be invited to the department when the grill package is delivered. For more information on how to contribute, interested business owners or individuals can call Hernandez or Tess Hipp at (813) 605-4049 or by email at [email protected] or [email protected].
