Plymouth Police Cracking Down On Public Drinking

PLYMOUTH, MA — Police say twenty-one people were arrested at White Horse Beach in Plymouth from Saturday to Monday, most on alcohol-related charges. With extra police stationed at the beach, Plymouth police say they noticed familiar habits with beachgoers who brought alcohol. Seven arrests were made just after noon on Saturday, with most being in their late teens and early 20s but only one was actually from Plymouth, says Capt. Kevin Manuel. By Sunday, a 23-year-old woman from Taunton was accused of assault and battery on a police officer for allegedly attacking an officer during the arrest, at the same time a 23-year-old Brockton man was charged with resisting arrest and interfering with police. Two more men were charged with disturbing the peace, while a vandalism charge for a 19-year-old from Fall River was made after he destroyed a tent police had set up. This all happened before two men were brought up on felony charges for assault and battery on a person 60 or older. Just after 6 p.m., police say they broke up another group that was drinking alcohol from plastic cups. With the extra patrolmen, Plymouth police say they are looking to bring down the chaos that usually ensues with public drinking on local beaches, White Horse beach especially.
