WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford police issued nearly 100 infractions and arrested two people who were wanted on warrants during its recent Click-It-Or-Ticket campaign, which took place from May 21 to June 3. "Funding for this effort was made available by the police department's participation in a State of Connecticut Department of Transportation Highway Safety Click-It or Ticket Grant that supported the staffing necessary to allow officers to specifically dedicate our efforts on seat belt enforcement in a continual endeavor to reduce injuries and fatalities resulting from traffic accidents," Lt. Anthony DeMaio wrote in a news release. The enforcement effort targeted the areas of: Cook Hill Road at Tuttle Avenue, Ward Street at South Colony Road, North Colony Road at Ives Road, North Colony Road at South Broad Street, South Colony Road at Toelles Road, and North Cherry Street at Hall Avenue and Quinnipiac Street, among others, according to DeMaio. The following is a synopsis of the citations issued and arrests made during the Click-it or Ticket campaign: Wallingford Police Officers stopped 123 motor vehicles and cited 99 operators and/or passengers for violations related to their failure to wear a safety belt. Officers also cited or arrested individuals for: 8 Cell phone violations2 Miscellaneous Drug Offenses4 Operating a M/V w/a Suspended License4 Uninsured Motorists3 Speeding Offenses2 Fugitive Apprehensions24 Miscellaneous motor vehicle offenses Additionally, warnings were issued for a variety of motor vehicle related offenses, according to DeMaio. "The Wallingford Police Department would like to remind motorists that buckling up in the front seat of a passenger vehicle can reduce your risk of fatal injury by 45% and moderate to critical injury by 50%," DeMaio wrote. "If you buckle up in the front seat of a light truck, you can reduce your risk of fatal injury by 60% and moderate to critical injury by 65%. Please buckle up!"
