WORCESTER, MA — A Leominster man may spend up to 12 years in prison for causing the death of a Framingham woman in a 2018 car crash after he became enraged when she tried to break up with him. Gregory McNally, 37, on Monday pleaded guilty to a charge of voluntary manslaughter in the death of Emilia Ortiz, 35. McNally was driving along Johnny Appleseed Lane in Leominster in July 2018 when he crashed into a tree and a fire hydrant. McNally was going about 86 mph in his SUV in the moments before the crash because he was angry that Ortiz wanted to break up with him, according to prosecutors. Two months before the deadly crash, McNally had driven his pickup truck into a wall when Ortiz tried to end the relationship. She filed a restraining order against him after that incident, but it expired days before the deadly crash. McNally was initially charged with second-degree murder following a 10-month investigation that concluded in 2019.
