Press release from City School District of Albany: June 15, 2021 Fittingly, the Albany High School Sgt. Henry Johnson Battalion Junior ROTC held its annual promotion and leadership awards ceremony on Monday – Flag Day and the 246th birthday of the U.S. Army. Cadets received a variety of honors at the event, held at the Joseph E. Zaloga American Legion Post 1520 Hall and bestowed by members of a variety of veteran groups including Gold Star Mothers, North Albany American Legion Post 1610, the Tri-County Council of Vietnam Era Veterans and William Wigand VFW Post 8444. Also on hand to help with pinnings were family members, Superintendent Kaweeda G. Adams, Albany High Principal Jodi Commerford, Albany Board of Education member Sridar Chittur, Ph.D., and JROTC advisers Maj. David Erickson and 1st Sgt. Allen Reome. This year's award winners were: Perfect Attendance Award – Kevin Kam, sophomore and Hser Wah, junior Cadet of the Year – Chika Uzoeshi, sophomore The Sons of Union Veterans Award – Keyshawn Witters, senior Daughters of the American Revolution Award – EhBlu Say, senior and Chika Uzoeshi, sophomore                                                                                                 Daughters of 1812 Award – Cristin Marte, senior Order of the Purple Heart Award – Jayan Campbell, sophomore Daughters of the American Colonists – Ariana Lovett-Blackman, sophomore AMVET Award – Thaw Nay Hea, junior American Legion Award for Military Excellence – Henry Sowah, senior American Legion Award for Academic Excellence – Kevin Kam, sophomore Veterans of Foreign Wars – Michael Lubinski, senior Association of the United States Army – Uziel Adil, senior Military Officers Association – Jesus Castillo, junior Reserve Officers Association – Christian Chesed, junior Retired Enlisted Association – Solomon Feroze, sophomore Superior Cadet – Giavanna Bacon, sophomore; Snay Maung, freshman; EhBlu Say, senior; and Hser Wah, junior General David Traub Award – Hser Wah, junior Albany High Memorial Award – Mary Minala, junior Sergeant Henry Johnson Award – Nevaeh Boyd, senior Gold Star Mother's Memorial Award – Keyorrie Wilson, senior Also, senior Michael Lubinski passed along the chain of command to junior Jesus Castillo.
